Facebook Saves of the Day: A woman being held hostage along with her 17-month-old son was able to access Facebook and post a status update alerting friends to her situation.
According to police, the unidentified victim had been held inside a home in Sandy, Utah, for five days before she managed to retrieve her confiscated cell phone, and surreptitiously post a message to her Facebook page warning that she and her son would be “dead by morning.”
The police arrived at the scene a short time later and arrested 33-year-old Troy Reed Critchfield. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail under suspicion of aggravated kidnapping and assault, forcible sodomy, child abuse, animal cruelty, and several other charges.
Critchfield is the child’s father, according to court documents. He was previously convicted of felony assault against the woman and ordered to serve 120 days in jail. He is still on probation.
